O canal de música americano VH1, que produz, entre outros especiais, o Divas Duets, elegeu as 100 melhores músicas dos últimos 25 anos. É uma tarefa fácil, se levarmos em conta somente os produtos pop e excluirmos todo material não comercial – que certamente é melhor que os 100 privilegiados da lista. Mas vamos lá.
O rei do pop aparece duas vezes na lista, na segunda posição com Billie Jean, e em quadragésimo com Beat it. Na frente dele, eleita a melhor músicas dos últimos 25 anos, Smell Like Teen Spirit, do Nirvana, hino da era grunge. A lista tenta agradar a todos, com o Guns N’Roses em terceiro com Sweet Child O’ Mine, Eminem com Loose Yourself em quarto e U2 com One em quinto. Até mesmo o VAN HALEN, sempre boicotado pelos moderninhos do rock, aparece em 11º, com Jump.
Entre os eleitos com duas entradas na lista estão Jackson, Madonna, Eminem, U2, The Police e Prince. Moderninhos, somente o Radiohead. Certamente se a lista tivesse sido feita por um canal inglês, 70% dos nomes cairiam por terra.
