John Lennon - A Vida
"Beatle queria comer a mãe"; "Yoko diz: John tinha tesão por Paul"; "Beatle ameaça matar o pai"; "Após encher a cara, beatle manda amigo pro hospital". Se vivo fosse, o saudoso "Notícias Populares" poderia usar qualquer uma dessas manchetes para anunciar o lançamento de "John Lennon - A Vida", a aguardada biografia escrita por Philip Norman.
Não que o livro seja sensacionalista. A trajetória de Lennon, uma das figuras mais marcantes do século 20, foi realmente cheia de lances pitorescos. Mesmo se esquecermos a metade mais conhecida de sua vida, depois que se tornou um Beatle, seus primeiros 20 anos também dariam --como deram-- um livro formidável.
Filho de um marinheiro mercante, Freddie, e de uma boêmia, Julia, Lennon teve a infância marcada pela ausência prolongada do pai, a aberta infidelidade da mãe e as brigas constantes dos dois. Aos seis anos, num episódio que o marcaria profundamente, teve de escolher entre a mãe (que já vivia com um amante) e o pai. Ficou com ela, mulher bonita e sedutora, mas emocionalmente incapaz de criá-lo --Julia praticamente o deu para a irmã, Mimi, uma matrona fria e calculista, que o criou como se fosse seu.
A cinzenta Liverpool
O que há de mais interessante no livro de Norman é justamente esse panorama da juventude de John na cinzenta Liverpool do pós-guerra. Vivendo uma vida burguesa de privilégios --cortesia da tia Mimi--, mas irresistivelmente atraído pela rudeza das docas, Lennon cresceu obcecado pela literatura surrealista de Lewis Carroll, pelo humor anárquico dos programas de rádio de Spike Milligan e Peter Sellers e pelo rock'n'roll primitivo de Elvis Presley, Chuck Berry e Little Richard. O resultado foi um jovem dotado de senso de humor corrosivo, uma língua ferina e um profundo desrespeito por qualquer tipo de autoridade.
Norman, que já havia escrito uma ótima biografia dos Beatles, "Shout", não se furta a esmiuçar os detalhes mais delicados da vida de Lennon. Entrevistando vários amigos e desencavando antigas entrevistas, o autor reconta como, aos 14 anos, deitado na cama da mãe, ele "acidentalmente tocou o seio de Julia". "Eu me perguntava se devia fazer algo mais", disse Lennon. "Sempre achei que devia ter feito. Presumivelmente, ela teria permitido."
Freud teria um prato cheio com John Lennon. Além do complexo de Édipo e da total ausência de uma figura paterna, ele viu quatro de suas pessoas mais queridas morrerem de forma violenta e inesperada: primeiro foi o amado tio George, marido de Mimi; depois, a mãe, Julia, atropelada quando ele tinha 17 anos. A lista de fatalidades continuou com Stu Sutcliffe, baixista de uma das primeiras formações dos Beatles e grande ídolo do líder da banda, e com Brian Epstein, o jovem e brilhante agente dos Beatles, morto de overdose, com quem Lennon supostamente teve um rápido caso amoroso.
Orgias e bebedeiras
A história do surgimento, ascensão e queda dos Beatles, embora contada e recontada mil vezes, é sempre emocionante. As orgias e bebedeiras dos primeiros shows em Hamburgo, a explosão da beatlemania, o apogeu criativo com os revolucionários álbuns "Rubber Soul" (1965), "Revolver" (1966) e "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band" (1967), as brigas com Paul e George, o romance com Yoko Ono, o fim dos Beatles, a carreira solo, tudo é contado por Norman em riqueza de detalhes.
Claro que alguns fãs --e os Beatles, mais do que qualquer banda, têm admiradores xiitas-- vão reclamar de omissões ou supostos ataques a Lennon. Mas, no geral, o livro é fabuloso e uma leitura fácil, apesar de seu tamanho de enciclopédia --mais de 800 páginas.
Lennon sai da história não como super-herói, e sim como um sujeito inseguro, por vezes violento e venenoso, mas também capaz de gestos de extrema bondade, dono de um talento criativo sem igual e de uma coragem incomparável para exorcizar seus demônios em público, por meio da música.

O título refere-se ao livro The Catcher in the Rye, encontrado de posse do assassino que foi preso logo após o crime. O livro contém 26 capítulos e o 27º capítulo seria a continuação da história, uma vez que Mark Chapman por vezes dizia se chamar Holden Caulfield, nome do fictício protagonista.
Há também uma possível referência à obra de Robert Rosen, Nowhere Man: The Final Days of John Lennon, na qual o autor faz um estudo numerológico que resulta em 27, o triplo de 9, um número muito importante para John Lennon. O cantor era obcecado por numerologia, em especial o número 9 e todos os seus múltiplos. Lennon nasceu em 9 de outubro de 1940. Seu filho Sean Lennon nasceu em 9 de outubro de 1975. A esposa, Yoko Ono, nasceu em 18 de fevereiro de 1933. Seu parceiro musical Paul McCartney, nasceu em 18 de junho de 1942. Moby Grape, o disco, é maior que a banda. Um disco de estréia que custou 11 mil dólares (muito pouco) e recebeu bem mais, tanto da crítica musical quanto do público. Mas então porque a banda não estourou? A banda teve vários problemas com drogas, que a marcaram negativamente. Mas o problema principal é que o disco era tão bom, mas tão bom, que a gravadora acabou lançando 5 singles ao mesmo tempo para tentar capitalizar com isso. A mescla de folk, country, rock'n'roll, garage rock e afins, que a tornavam uma das bandas mais ecléticas da época, acabaram por deixar seu som indefinido. Dessa forma, o Moby Grape acabou não conseguindo firmar uma direção e se perdeu. Se perder com um disco que tem músicas incríveis como Sitting By The Window e Omaha é inacreditável. Mas as vertentes que a banda se propôs a abraçar acabaram a dividindo. Esta bela obra que foi destruída pela gravadora ficou como uma lição do que não se fazer, comercialmente falando. Mas o disco, que hoje é um clássico, ficou para a memória.
Moby Grape
Moby Grape é um banda de rock estadunidense da década de 1960, conhecida pela contribuição de todos os seu integrantes nos vocais e composições e que mesclava elementos de folk music, blues, country e jazz com rock.
Devido à força de seu álbum de estréia, vários críticos consideram o Moby Grape como a melhor banda de rock a emergir do cenário musical de São Francisco no final dos anos 60. Apesar de não lançar mais álbuns inéditos, o grupo continua a se apresentar ocasionalmente.

ATENÇÃO - 1946: Nasceu, em Santos (SP), Luiz Franco Tomaz, o Netinho, baterista dos Incríveis. Em meados dos anos 70 Netinho saiu dos Incríveis para formar a banda Casa das Máquinas, com quem lançou três discos. No início dos anos 80 ele voltou para Os Incríveis.
- 1964: Nasceu, no Rio de Janeiro, Rodrigo Luiz de Castro Santos, baixista do Barão Vermelho desde 1993. Em 2007 Rodrigo lançou seu 1º CD solo Um Pouco Mais de Calma.
- 1992: Morreu, em São Paulo (SP), de cirrose hepática, devido a seu problema de alcoolismo, o cantor da Jovem Guarda Antônio Marcos. Em 1966 participou do grupo Os Iguais, gravando dois compactos e um disco. No mesmo ano fez sua primeira gravação solo. No ano seguinte fez grande sucesso com a música “Tenho Um Amor Melhor Que o Seu”, de Roberto e Erasmo Carlos. Ao longo de sua carreira lançou 13 discos e diversos compactos e EPs. Seu primeiro casamento foi com a cantora Vanusa. De seu casamento com a atriz Débora Duarte nasceu a filha Paloma Duarte, hoje atriz. Morreu em 05 de abril de 1992 devido a uma cirrose hepática contraída por conta de seu alcoolismo.
